Amsterdam Falafelshop To Franchise

One of my favorite fast food stops in the city, Adams Morgan's
Amsterdam Falafelshop announced today that it is franchising. That means more falafel and twice-fried fries to go around.

According to the release, "the newly-minted franchise plans to carefully expand by concentrating on selling to the nearby states along the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions."

The husband and wife team of Scott and Arianne Bennett opened the original location six years ago at 2425 18th St.

The company's franchise announcement cites a rising interest in Middle Eastern foods. And Scott Bennett notes an unexpected customer base driving up sales at the falafel shop: war veterans returning home.

"We see them come into the restaurant all the time in their uniforms and we always ask where they've been and they tell us everywhere from Baghdad to Kabul, and Islamabad to Stuttgart, where falafel has become an institution," Bennett says in the release. "Apparently they tasted the falafel while over there, really liked it, and want to eat it back here at home. It wasn't something that we had anticipated but it makes sense when you think about it."
