Here's a good article on Duck confit, which also happens to mention that it doesn't need to be duck fat that you cook it in. so, there's hope for anyone who still has trouble finding some delicious duck fat!

Another way to get duck fat is from the ducks. Most commercial ducks are so fatty that you can build up a store of fat just by roasting a few ducks. If you buy a whole duck or two, you just remove the legs and season them as you would for duck confit. Remove the breasts from the duck and use or freeze as you wish.Trim all of the remaining fat from the carcass (there are big chunks on the neck skin), and place the fat on top of the marinating legs in a small casserole dish. continued...

Roast the duck carcasses to make stock and reduce down to a jus and freeze or use. After marinating the legs over night, cook slowly in the casserole dish at 275 for 3 to 5 hours until the legs are fork tender. You can top off the duck legs with a few splashes of canola oil if you feel that there is not enough fat, but there should be plenty to melt down and baste the legs with fat. Use the confit as you wish, and strain the remaining fat and rerfrigerate or freeze until needed. continued...

Now you have duck fat that is nicely seasoned with the aromatics from the confit process, and you have utilized the whole duck, which is more economical in the long run but takes some time...You can now use this fat for your next confit or or for frying or sauteeing.

Love to see the positive response to duck fat. We are with Chris on rendering duck fat yourself. But if you need fat in a hurry, or don't have any ducks, the tub is the way to go. And Meg, so right. We love our popcorn popped in a pot with duck fat, dressed with melted black truffle butter and some Parmigiano-Reggiano finely grated on top. Salt helps, too. It's impossible to stop eating this.

Duck fat keeps for a while. I'd say 6 months, longer in the freezer. I keep lard around for a year or so in the freezer.
